Our Faith
Uniquely created by God, each and every member of our learning community has an important contribution to make both to our school and to the wider world. Our shared Christian faith is an important part of school life. Our vision statement for our school is ‘ONLY ONE YOU’ – inspired and supported by Psalm 119 – ‘God you made me; you created me.’ We believe that there is only one you in this great big world… and it is our responsibility to use our unique gifts and talents to make the world a better place to be.
We share a deep collective belief that education should be about ‘broadening minds, enriching communities and advancing civilisations. Ultimately it is about leaving the world a better place than we found it.’ This belief underpins and inspires our approach to learning and life at Fishbourne. We live and breathe this vision with every fibre of our beings in school. It is our reason for getting up and coming to school each day. It is weaved through everything we do and shines brightly within our approach.
This is a vision for all members of our school community – children, staff, families, volunteers and visitors. Each of us is unique and each of us has a key role to play in making our world a better place to be. Our vision results in all members of our community flourishing within their roles within and beyond school. It guides the way we approach all areas of school development and the way in which we nurture all members of our school family.
Each of our five learning behaviours that underpin our bespoke curriculum are rooted in scripture:
Collaborative:
‘We are one body which is Christ’s. We are all different but we depend on each other.’
Romans 12: 5
Reflective:
‘Let us examine our ways.’
Lamentations 3: 40
Positivity:
‘I praise you because you made us in an amazing and wonderful way.’
Psalm 139: 14
Courageous:
‘Be strong and courageous.’
Deuteronomy 31: 6a
Determination
‘Work the best you can. Work as if you were doing it for the Lord.’
Colossians 3: 23
We enjoy a daily act of collective worship together and have a large team of people who support our spiritual life in school:
Monday | Golden Learner assembly – where we celebrate children using our learning behaviours in and beyond the classroom, as well as share news about ways in which we are making the world a better place to be. |
Tuesday | Class assembly |
Wednesday | Visitors assembly |
Thursday |
Rector's assembly |
Friday | Singing assembly |
During these special times together we sing, reflect and tell stories from the Bible and from the world that explore the themes of learning.
We really enjoy welcoming Mother Jess each week to our school where she explores some of the themes we are learning about during this time.

The Story Tellers are a team of volunteers from our local church and beyond who come in to share stories from the Storyteller Bible once a half term. Groups of children help to tell the story with the support of the volunteers, often getting dressed up and playing a key part in retelling the story. A great deal of time and preparation go into these visits on the part of the volunteers and they are very much appreciated by the children! Our children look forward to their Story Teller assembly time and there is a great sense of excitement as they enter the hall to hear another story from the bible.
We are also incredibly lucky to have visits from:
Andy Morgan – youth minister from Chichester Baptist Church
Frank Yorkston - Aldwick Baptist Church
Austen Hindman, Headteacher of Bishop Luffa CE School, and their Worship Team
This brilliant team of visitors make our world a better place to be by helping us to explore and unpick some of the themes we have been learning about during our collective worship time. They share their own unique refection and interpretations of scripture and help us to think about what this may mean for the way we liver our lives. The children always look forward to their visits and especially enjoy the fun that they bring to our times of collective worship. We are really grateful for all our visitors contribute to our learning community.
It is really important to us that the children are as involved in our acts of worship as possible and so we have introduced a Worship Team who work with Mrs Treagust and Jess. This group meet weekly, often with our foundation governors, to help plan some of the key events during the school year such as Acts of Remembrance, Harvest, Easter and Christmas.
